A scale is any set of musical notes ordered by fundamental frequency or pitch in music theory. A scale ordered by increasing pitch is actually an ascending scale, and a scale ordered by lessening pitch are a descending size. Some scales have different pitches when rising than when descending, eg, the melodic scale that is minor.
